At Oak Tree, we pride ourselves on our interactive and stimulating Early Years (Nursery and Reception) curriculum which allows for many ‘I wonder’ moments.

  • Our curriculum shaped over many years, is all about building the foundations for an Islamic personality whilst fostering well-being, self-confidence, communication and academic success.

  • Our class sizes are small, providing a huge amount of individualised attention

  • All staff within EY hold an early year’s qualification

  • Our Early Years facility contained all across one level of the School allows the children to safely and fluidly move around our play, sensory, learning and art zones

  • Our dedicated Early Years Outdoor Play Area contains areas for learning; a mud kitchen; planting; eating; and of course play!

  • We are a through-school enabling Nursery and Reception children to stay with us all through Primary.

  • As childrens’ education experts for over 20 years, our knowledge and tailored approach to developing children through exploration; communication and thinking is woven into everything that we do, starting in Early Years, laying the foundations for them to become thoughtful, global citizens in a modern Britain.

Learning

The children within our Early Years are given the autonomy to make choices and learn through a range of play based opportunities.  We also encourage play in mixed age groups, which provide a traditional large family atmosphere, helping children to acquire social and emotional skills.

Daily

In Nursery there are two carpet sessions (morning and afternoon), which cover phonics, communication and mathematics.  Most of our children will be on the reading journey prior to reaching Reception.

In Reception, there are four daily whole class teaching carpet sessions that include handwriting, phonics, mathematics and literacy.

Phonics is taught through the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme of study and Mathematics is based on White Rose maths.

Weekly

We have poetry sessions, nasheeds, building blocks of Islamic belief; Surahs and stories from Quran, Arabic letters, Arabic as a language and PE.

We follow the EYFS framework and our Islamic ethos permeates each child’s day.
